RIVERVIEW PRESERVATION SOCIETY                                      RPS

WHO ARE WE?

The Riverview Preservation Society is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 by family, friends, and advocates of people with mental illness.

We are dedicated to keeping the Riverview Lands as public lands (244 acres) in perpetuity for the use of mentally ill people.  We support creating a healing sanctuary for current and future generations of mentally ill people.

Over 100 years ago, 1000 acres of the Riverview Lands (Mount Coquitlam) were set aside for two purposes:

- To provide a sanctuary and residential treatment facility for the mentally ill, and

- To provide a site for a provincial botanical garden.

We support these original purposes and visualize

-  A new village-like community on the Riverview Lands for people with mental illness and addictions.

- Appropriate levels of housing, care, ancillary services, in a peaceful, safe and tranquil setting.

- A new community model for future generations.

All other uses of the Riverview Lands should not only be compatible with our Vision noted above, but should be in harmony with the needs and well-being of the mentally ill.

RPS does not support these lands being developed for market housing.

RPS does not support any private development of these lands.

The Riverview Facebook Group continues to grow.  Check out Riverview Preservation Society’s site on Facebook.  On Facebook (www.facebook.com) you can sign RPS’s petition and leave your comments. To access the Riverview Group, users must create an account and log in.  Once you are in the Riverview Group search for the Riverview Preservation Society.

Please note that our petition on Facebook is different than the one supporting the Riverview Task Force.  The Riverview Preservation Society does not support some of the guiding principles and the future concept noted in the Riverview Task Force.   The concept of the Riverview Task Force shows support for private development, and private investment on this site and does not follow through with the vision to provide a sanctuary and residential treatment facility on the entire site, and thus does not meet the needs and well-being of the mentally ill of the province of BC.
